The Northeast Queer & Trans People of Color (NEQTPOC) Conference strives to provide unity, empowerment, visibility, and validation for all queer- and trans- identifying people of color in the northeast region of the United States. The conference strives to foster a space where QTPOC can network and dialogue about the complexities of their intersections beyond the LGBTQ+ spectrum. It will be a time to re-appropriate the queer- and trans- histories that have been politically erased.
The theme we have selected for the NEQTPOC conference is “Healing, Coalition Building, and Decolonization.” We will use the concept of decolonizing as a bridge for remembering the past and in discussing stereotypes and challenges currently facing current people of color of queer and/or trans identity. We hope that by building up the QTPOC community we can lay the group for more unity among us and build momentum towards facing the challenges imposed upon us and others.
This conference is primarily a brave space for QTPOC individuals to gather in community and mobilization. Historically, the NEQTPOC conference has been closed off to people who identify as a queer/trans person of color. Princeton will follow in this tradition and will make all events a qtpoc-specific space with the exception of the Friday keynote.
