Come an hour early on Sunday, January 20th to join our GENDA Victory Party! To celebrate the passage of GENDA and a bill banning conversion therapy in New York State, The LOFT's Interim Executive Director John Baker invites you to join us at the center for a victory reception. We hope to have with us LOFT volunteer Joann Prinzivalli, founder of NYTRO and author of portions of the GENDA bill, to provide a historical context on how momentous this victory is for all New Yorkers.
New York State lawmakers have just passed the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA), a major step forward in ensuring that transgender, gender nonconforming and nonbinary (TGNCNB) people are treated fairly and equally under the law. By adding gender identity and expression as a protected class under the Human Rights Law, GENDA provides TGNCNB people with protection against harassment and discrimination in employment, housing and public spaces like restaurants and shops.
We are also thrilled to share news of the passage of a bill banning conversion therapy in New York State. By banning conversion therapy, New York will protect LGBTQ youth from being unduly victimized and traumatized simply for living their authentic lives.
LOFT Peer Support Groups are open topic drop-in groups. There is no need to preregister and no fee to attend. Donations are welcome. They are led by facilitators who identify as peers with those in attendance.
There is no fee to attend discussion groups but a $5 donation is suggested, more if you can, less if you can’t. Fees related to activities are to the responsibility of participants.
