A part of the Westchester Community Foundation Community Matters Film Series, the Jacob Burns Film Center will be featuring Real Boy and be followed by a post-film discussion. The film will show a 19 year old's journey through early sobriety, late adolescence, and the evolution of his gender identity while his mother makes her own transformation to accepting her trans son. Along the way, both mother and son find support in their communities reminding us that families are not only given but chosen.
The post-film discussion will be given with Jamie Bruesehoff, a writer, speaker, and advocate whose first born child transitioned at eight and became a national symbol for the transgender community, as well as Shepard Verbas, program manager at The LOFT Community Center, and prominent spokesperson for trans rights who was profiled in National Geographic's January 2017 Gender issue.
A reception will follow in the Jane Peck Gallery.
