CANDLE is seeking a Masters-level Social Worker to coordinate school and community based groups and presentations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and facilitate psycho-educational groups for youth K-12
- Develop, update and implement prevention programs to be delivered in school and community settings
- Develop and present workshops to students, school faculty, parents and community; expand training opportunities in schools, community-based youth serving organizations, civic and religious organizations, and professional and youth groups
- Supervise staff/consultants that run groups for various programs/age groups
- Make appropriate substance abuse/mental health referrals to community members
- Facilitate the integration of issues of concern to LGBTQ youth and their adult supports into all of CANDLE’s programs.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling or related field. (Will consider Master’s level intern or 5 years’ relevant experience in lieu of Master’s degree.)
- Passion for working with youth in substance abuse and violence prevention programs.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to work with adults and youth
- Knowledge of group work, group dynamics and ability to provide supervision in this area
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- The ability to manage multiple projects in the same time period
- A valid driver’s license, transportation and insurance (the position requires travel throughout Rockland County).
Skills Required:
- Communication/Presentation Skills - Public speaking (school and community presentations, PTA meetings), ability to network with school personnel, parents, and community.
- Computer/Social Media Skills - Proficiency in MS Word and Excel and MS Windows. Basic skills for using social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr. Familiarity with MS Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or other design software is a plus.
