Do you want where you live to reflect your community? Do you want to assure that people are not denied housing because of their sexual orientation or gender identity? Where you live is your choice… Help make Fair Housing a reality for your community!
Westchester Residential Opportunities (WRO) is a nonprofit housing counseling agency, established in 1968, whose mission is to promote equal, affordable and accessible housing throughout our region.

Westchester Residential Opportunities, Inc. Fair Housing Testing Program
WRO is a HUD-Certified fair housing agency charged with investigating housing discrimination complaints in the Lower Hudson Valley and uncovering unfair housing patterns and practices. One of the most vital tools of our investigatory process is the fair housing tester.
After we receive a complaint, how do we prove that illegal discrimination actually occurred? After all, we are not there to witness the transaction.
WRO follows up complaints by creating testing situations – that is, simulations of housing transactions – to uncover violations of the fair housing laws. Testers make appointments to visit apartments or homes and then submit written reports about their experiences. Testers are compensated for travel expenses and receive a stipend for time spent testing and writing reports.
