PREA Trauma Therapist
Report to
The Trauma Therapist will report to the Clinical Coordinator at Elmsford.
Job Overview
The PREA Trauma Therapist will primarily be responsible for providing trauma focused/specialized clinical services, including individual psychotherapy, to primary victims of crime who are currently incarcerated at the following NYS DOCCS Facilities’: Sing Sing, Bedford Hills and Taconic. Trauma Therapist will function as a member of both the clinical team and the larger VAS staff, sharing in the mission of not only providing specialized services but also working towards systemic change.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide In-person & virtual trauma informed individual, group and family therapy to primary and secondary innocent victims of crime
- Maintain a caseload of 15 PREA clients
- Provide a therapeutic support group
- Develop and write treatment plans, clinical notes and various other documentation ● Participate in weekly individual supervision and group supervision, as well as trainings, staff meetings, etc.
- Provides crisis intervention, safety planning, information/referrals to victims of crime as needed ● Provide all other crime victim services as needed.
- Produce monthly reports as required by the agency and funders.
Qualifications
- MA degree in clinical field required
- Must be licensed and/or working towards licensure for MHC, LMHC or LCSW ● Excellent writing skills, public speaking skills and presentation skills.
- Self-started with strong clinical skills with both individuals and groups
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system, an understanding of victimology, and experience working with trauma a plus
- Background in women’s issues, domestic violence, sexual assault and social justice preferred. ● Driver’s license and car required
- Must have strong knowledge of MS Office (including strong excel skills) and G-Suite (Google Drive and Google applications a must)
