LGBTQ+Allies at the Helm

The Hudson River Sloop Clearwater is a non-profit organization formed fifty years ago by activist folksinger Pete Seeger to clean up the Hudson River. Inclusion has always been a central part of pursuing that mission, and the LGBTQ+ community has been a part of that since their sloop’s maiden voyage in 1969. For the last ten years, they’ve provided LGBTQ+Allies at the helm as a safe, 3-day sailing and camping experience in which youths from 15 to 18 years old can learn about environmental protection and leadership.

The program is 100% free and requires no prior sailing or camping experience. Everything is provided starting with pick-up and ending with drop-off near participants’ homes. All food is provided and prepared onboard. Tents and sleeping bags are available for those who don’t have their own. There are currently 17 unfilled spots.
