Hudson Valley Queer Outdoors March Hike

Join March's Hudson Valley Queer and Trans Outdoors hike at Sugarloaf Mountain!

Time: Saturday, March 2nd, 2019
Starts at 10:30am, we'll hike 8 miles for about 3 hours

Place: Sugarloaf Mountain, Beacon, NY
GPS: 96 NY-9D, Beacon, NY 12508

Sugarloaf is a beautiful mountain with switchbacks, 2 creek crossings, and a sweaty rock scramble before ending in a glorious view of the Hudson, Bear Mountain, and the Catskills. This trail is super sunny and usually not very icy, but we'll keep you posted about the trail conditions closer to the date.

Difficulty: Sugarloaf trail begins with moderate switchbacks and then moves into some steeper uphills, and ends with a short, steep rock scramble which requires some steady footwork. The trail gains 900' feet of elevation over 1.4 miles. There are also 2 creek crossings which require stepping on smaller rocks that may be slippery. Please let us know if you have any questions about what the trail is like! Dog friendly as long as your dog can do scrambles (or can be lifted).

Directions: The trailhead is directly off of Rte 9D, just north of the Breakneck Ridge Trailhead. You'll see a trail marker post with yellow markers on it that reads "Wilkinson Memorial Trail". There is a pull off area both in front of and directly across the street from the trailhead. If it's full, you can park elsewhere alongside Route 9, but please be careful walking along the busy road to the trailhead! (Parent speech over).

You can follow us on Facebook and Instagram (@hvqueeroutdoors) for any trip updates. Please RSVP, and email hvqueeroutdoors@gmail with any questions! Hope to see you on March 2nd! - Toni and Athena

PS: Put our next hikes on your calendar: 4/6 and 5/4!
