The American Booksellers Association, the trade association representing independent bookstores, is seeking an energetic, experienced Junior Writer/Researcher to join its staff full-time in White Plains, New York.
The Junior Writer/Researcher will work to create relevant business-related and association news stories for ABA’s website and weekly e-newsletter, content for bookseller education, and other resources to help member bookstores operate more successfully and profitably.
Responsibilities:
- Pitch and write news articles related to independent bookselling for website and weekly e-newsletter
- Monitor current events in the book industry and investigate leads and tips
- Attend and report on industry events (some travel required)
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with booksellers for future articles
- Copyedit and proofread association publications and other materials
- Oversee newsletter advertising
Qualifications:
- High editorial standards, including strong writing, proofreading, interviewing, and fact-checking skills and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style
- Familiarity with content management systems, basic HTML, basic photo editing, and social media
- Strong ability and desire to work as part of a team
- One to three years of professional writing and editorial experience
- Knowledge of the book industry and independent bookselling are pluses
